Vega's "PRO" 36" Duplicator

A precision piece that's as smooth as silk running along a chain can follow the slightest detail with the two different stylus that comes with it.

I wasn't all that impressed with the instructions, but it also came with a video that was very enlightening with the assembly along with demonstrating its many operations. They also have a utility model for occasional users, but it doesn't have some of the features the "pro" has. The "pro" with special attachments allows the use of a router for fluting and spirals.
I'll be adding more pics of this duplicator in use on this upcoming project.
An excellent tip I got off the video was to bore a hole at both ends, the size of the spur bit and live centers on large turnings like this. It really adds to the safety, preventing any slippage in the centers. The hole is only about 3/8" deep

I wasted one turning getting the feel of things, as with anything there is a learning curve, but I've got to say that it didn't take long to get some nice turnings at all. One of the biggest area's in turnings are the corners and taking my time not to go in to deep and to fast, I got some nice scrip corners with no splinters

Once the design is complete, I transferred it to a piece of Plexiglas to make a template for the guide pin to follow. I did this turning in poplar, as its going to be a prototype to a hexagon table for a client. Once satisfied with the design and appearance, I'll then do the actual 8 table legs, and 4 bench legs in Mahogany

Look at the corners......... nice and crisp

Now for a little sanding

Done!

These guy's were real nice and it was a pleasant experience shopping with them. What's important in my book is the "after the sale" service. I wanted to verify something, sent them an e-mail with a pic and got a prompt reply. My kinda place to do business in my book!
