Man.... I never dreamt in all my years, this handrail would have taken so long to do! First it's find the right size tree top or tree for the handrail, then saw it in half on the Logosol. That's not so bad. Its the balusters that are tough to find. You'd think with all the standing cedars I have it would be easy? Ha! I'll bet before it's all said and done, I'll need at least 50!!!

Anyhow... I'm trying to use some of the tree tops I have on the ground already from least fall. Once found, the have to be peeled, sanded, then cut to length. Sounds easy..........huh. Nope! Took me all of 2 day's for this little adventure, then build it in place this morning. Just look at the assortment of tools out! Geeesh

Now........what do you suppose kind of level is used on these irregular balusters?? Geesh I lag them down through the top with a 6" lag bolt and 1/2" drill. Straighten by eye, then clamp it.......remove the rail to do the bottom with a lag from the underside. Try and maintain code spacing and stay plumb...... almost impossible! Once everything is lagged, then its to try and slide this sucker into the groove I chiseled out to house the rail at each end!

Like this!

After all that straightening I still see a couple that are off! I give up for today!!!

Well?......back to hunting down baluster stock......

Now you'd think I'd find something .........somewhere! Just about everything you see that is green, is cedar. Bare trees are hardwood

Don't get one of thes Logosol's. They can be addictive!

This ATV sure makes it a tad easier. Cut, then carry it on out

finally found a few, now it's draw knife time

Had some iffy weather so, it was back inside for a while. Put in the dinning room window, and started covering the walls with cedar log slabs to give it an authentic log look. The joints will be sealed with a special caulk. Just haven't decided on a color yet for the caulk.

The slabs will go on all the outer walls, except for the counter backsplash. I want the slabs there, but the Mrs. wants tile........hmmmmmmm (whisper) I may have to go with tile ;-)

Had a pretty warm day so far without any wind. A great day for outside work (except no sun)

Did a bunch of stuff, but also completed the second set of deck rails
